The Great Adventure Lab is an after-school science enrichment program that runs in 50+ schools in the DC area. We’ve taught thousands of kids how to write their first robotics programs or video game programs (or both!). This is our fourth school year!

We do it all with SMALL class sizes (adult-student ratio = 6:1) and highly skilled teachers, many of whom have or still work as scientists or engineers. Our goal is to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics irresistably FUN for the next generation. Kids leave our classes demanding MORE!

You can read all about our classes and birthday parties on our web site Our site includes plenty of reviews, photos and links to videos from our classes!

We are an LLC based in Silver Spring, MD. We are fully insured and our instructors have passed background checks including FBI and state fingerprinting.

Grades 2-4

June 23-27, 2014  9am-12pm

Lego Robotics 2

Students follow step-by-step on-screen instructions to build their robots, and then write suggested programs to get their robots working. After that, those who are ready write more complicated programs involving motion or tilt sensors, or improvise to make their robots achieve certain tasks.

That’s just the start! Once we’ve built and programmed are bots, we start experimenting with them. If we want our robot to move in a different direction, or make a sound, or make a different motion, how do we re-program them or re-engineer them to do that?

Grades 4-7

June 23-27, 2014  9am-12pm

Students will have an awesome time building robots that can navigate obstacle courses and respond to a multitude of sensors, including light, touch, sound …

Our students begin work with the the Lego Mindstorms® base kit to master the programming of basic movements, and then progress to more difficult challenges. We’ll build robots that can navigate mazes, shoot ping pong balls … and more!
